MD5 Hashing: Is It Still Secure in 2024?

The Fall of MD5

MD5 is a cryptographic hash function that produces a 128-bit hash value. For over a decade, it was the standard for storing passwords and verifying file integrity.

Why It Is Deprecated

Due to advancements in computing power, MD5 is now highly vulnerable to collision attacks and rainbow tables. While still useful for fast file checksums, it should never be used for hashing passwords.
