Understanding the Difference Between Gross and Net Salary

The Number on the Offer Letter

When you are offered a job with a $100,000 salary, that is your Gross Income. However, the amount that actually hits your bank account will be significantly lower.

The Net Reality

Net salary is what remains after federal taxes, state taxes, social security, Medicare, and any employer deductions (like 401k or health insurance) are stripped away. Always budget based on Net, not Gross.
